We had a wonderful first riding tour from the 22th of June to the 27th of June. We met amazing women who rode for 6 days. We had to change the itinerary for the first time since Hekluhestar were founded 1981 because the highlands were still closed. Now the weather gods are in good mood in Iceland, sun and around 15-20°C and it is looking for the next highland ride. We are looking forward seeing our beloved mountains next Monday.
Summer is arriving
We have shoed some of our riding tour horses and we have welcomed wonderful guests for short riding tours. The lambing season is going well, plenty of healthy little lambs running around and we have two newborn foals jumping around as well. We are very happy that the summer is coming, slowly but surely 🙂
New looking stables.
Great new year
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! The Hekluhestar family is looking forward to this year, we are sure it will be full of laughter, joy and of course horse back riding. We are renewing our stables and we are looking forward to start to train the young horses. We will put in photos when it is ready. Only 5 months until the riding tour starts, Hurray! 🙂
The little foal doing well!
He got the name Ófeigur, an old icelandic name. He is doing very well and is getting bigger every day!
We are renewing our stables and the sheep will come inside at the end of this week. We are getting some bookings for the riding tours next summer and we are already looking forward to ride with wonderful people and a group of free running horses. iiiihaaa 🙂
New foal!
Our mare Gáskadís had a nice surprise for us yesterday morning. She gave birth to a wonderful foal. Gáskadís has been in the riding tours for over 20 years, she has never been able to have a foal, it had been tried many times before. We never thought she could have a foal now as she is around 25 years old. And on top of this it is really a miracle that it is a life because it was found stuck in a whole and it was very lucky that we were in the area that day. It was thanks to two wonderful guests who asked if they could go for a 2 hour ride, so we went to get the herd of horses, and thankfully we did! 🙂
Fantastic summer 2014
First riding tour of the season
Spring is here!
The wonderful spring is here, so much to look forward, some of our beautiful summer birds have arrived, like to Golden plover, Oystercatcher and Pink-footed goose for example. The horses are loosing their winter hair, the foals and the lambs will soon be born and last but not least the horse riding tours are starting! Jiiibbheii 🙂
